Book of the Month:
April
Submitted by: Brooke (Maydwell Teacher)
The Giver
Lois Lowry
For this month’s book club pick, I chose The Giver, a book that has been one of my favorites for over 30 years. I return to it again and again because it is thoughtful, layered, and always leaves me reflecting on what it means to truly feel, question, and live with awareness.
I also love how beautifully it connects to yoga. The story touches on self-study, truthfulness, awareness, and the courage to see beyond conditioning. In many ways, it reflects the yogic practice of waking up, paying attention, and choosing to live more consciously rather than simply moving through life on autopilot.
I’m excited to share this book with our Maydwell Virtual Studio community this month.

Monthly Intentions
sthira-sukham asanam
Posture is steadiness and ease.
Yoga Sutra 2.46
This month we practice balance.

Rooting down.
Softening what does not need to grip.
Staying steady without becoming rigid.
Making space for both effort and ease.
We do not need to force the moment.
We learn to meet it with clarity.

Where can you create more steadiness,
while still allowing yourself to breathe?

I am working hard setting up for our upcoming Teacher Training! I will have news for you soon. Until then I hope you are enjoying yoga practices and are having calm days. See you in the studio!
Brooke

Amy
I'd like to share a yoga quote which has made a meaningful impact in my life:
“There is no becoming of what did not already exist, there is no unbecoming of what does exist” - Bhagavadgita
I love this quote because it reminds me of the power we all have within us. This excerpt first came to me during an Asian Religions class in college, when I was going through a very challenging time in my life. Somehow the excerpt landed in a way that solved my impossible problem in that very moment, like Dorothy clicking her ruby red slippers together. I had been looking externally to heal, when truly I was never broken, and I needed only to reconnect to that place inside of myself that is unchanging, which life’s challenges had disconnected me from. My regular yoga practice helps me stay grounded in that deeper connection, as life’s challenges continue to ebb and flow in different form. I hope the quote will resonate with you too :)

I will see you on the mat Mondays @4:30pm for a thoughtful and intentional flow.
